A Word…

I was sitting in my office on Friday and came across a notebook that I once used to take notes at board meetings (thankfully those days are over), and notes from the sermon on Sundays.  I was simply flipping through the pages when I stumbled onto a word the Lord spoke to me last year.  I had forgotten about it, but it’s rediscovery could not be more timely.  I’m in a season where my identity in Christ is being challenged by my past, trials my family and I have walked through and old habits that I can’t seem to kick.  It is so good to read something encouraging and knowing it is straight from His heart.  As soon as I read it, I felt I needed to share it.  Usually, what God speaks to one, applies to many. Please enjoy and take this word for yourself.

“When I created the universe, all I had to do was speak.  When I created you, I literally put My hands to the plow and went to work.  Your shortcomings don’t surprise Me, your anger doesn’t scare Me and your fears are not out of My reach.  I am not shocked by where you are on your journey – it’s actually a pretty good place to be.

“I am not all that concerned with you outwardly.  Yet inwardly, beyond the anger and the hurt, you have a lot of heart.  The difficult part for you has become getting your heart out of you so the rest of the world can experience it.  I want control of your heart! Remember, it is the center of your being; everything that flows from it, your mind is controlled by it and it impacts your health.  That is the primary part of you that I want. But you need to trust me with it; you have to trust that I won’t damage it like others have.

“Once I have it – completely – nothing will be impossible for Me to do in and through you. From your heart springs love – being a father, husband, helping others, preaching, healing, prophecy, helping others, changing the world – has to be motivated by love.  If not, it’s all worthless and powerless.  If I have your heart, your motives will never be questioned.  In fact, you will be drawn – even compelled – to do good and obey Me.  People, therefore, will be drawn you because of Me.

“There are no limits – only the ones you put on yourself.  Give Me your heart and I’ll break the lies, cast out the fear and remove the doubt.  You will be emboldened to step out and go wherever I send you and do whatever I ask you to.  You know the amazing thins I’ve spoken to you in the past; they don’t need repeated.  They have been planted in you like a seed.  And I will do everything I said I would.

“All I ask for is your heart.”

This is the prayer I have for breakthrough – that I would surrender my heart to Him regardless of the fears and struggles I deal with.  He is not mad at me like I tend to believe sometimes.  He will change me from the inside and my outward motives will follow suit.  It’s difficult to give your heart away, though.  Even to the One Who created it. But this, I’m praying, will be the a year of making significant strides to that end.
